Where To Stay In Naxos Greece – Best Hotels In Naxos

A guide on where to stay in Naxos Greece. Includes the best areas to stay in Naxos, as well as Naxos hotel suggestions for all budgets.

Best places to stay in Naxos Greece

Visitors often ask what is the best place to stay in Naxos. The island is the largest of the Cyclades group, and offers a great mix of history, culture, sandy shores, clear blue waters, and charming villages.

Unlike some busier Greek islands, Naxos feels more relaxed overall, but still has plenty to see and do. You can wander through the Venetian Castle in the Old Town, head to the famous Portara, explore the mountain villages like Apeiranthos, Chalki and Filoti, and look out for the three Kouroi statues in Faragi, Flerio and Apollon.

The island is also great for swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking and hiking, and a fantastic place if you like traditional Greek food.

There are numerous hotels and rooms to let in Naxos, ranging from small family-run hotels to luxury resorts. Most visitors stay in the coastal area between Naxos Town and Plaka beach, marked on the map below, but you can find accommodation all around the island.

I’m Vanessa from Athens and have visited Naxos numerous times in the past decades. In this guide, I have explained the best areas to stay in Naxos, and have put together a selection of hotels, as chosen by my Facebook group readers!

Best areas to stay in Naxos island

Most people who visit Naxos choose to stay in one of the following areas: Naxos Town, Agios Georgios, Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, and Plaka beach. These areas are all on the coast, and offer easy access to the beach, as well as plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops.

In the next sections, I’ve explained what makes each area special. I’ve also listed a few great hotels – I’ve started from the most affordable ones in each area, but also included a few luxury hotels that came highly recommended by my readers.

Tip no 1: Naxos is becoming increasingly popular, so if there is a particular hotel where you want to stay, book early. If you are travelling during peak season, July and August, it’s best to book your accommodation a few months in advance.

Tip no 2: Finding a parking spot in these popular areas can be tricky at times. If you are planning to rent a car, it’s best to choose an accommodation with its own parking.

Best hotels in Naxos

And now, let’s break down the best places to stay in Naxos, one by one:

Where to stay in Naxos Town (Chora)

Naxos Town, or Chora, is the island’s port town and main hub. It’s full of whitewashed streets, cute shops and lively tavernas. The famous Portara and the Venetian Castle make it a great place for sightseeing.

Staying in Naxos Town means that you’ll have easy access to restaurants, nightlife, and transport to other parts of the island. The waterfront is lined with cafes and bars, perfect for sunset drinks. Hotels range from budget-friendly rooms to stylish boutique stays.

Whether you want to explore, relax, or enjoy local food, Naxos Town has it all. It’s the best place to stay if you like a mix of culture, convenience, and energy, and you are happy to explore the other beaches on the island by bus, car or taxi.

Where to stay in St George Naxos

Agios Georgios (St George) Beach is just a short walk from Naxos Town. It’s a calm, family-friendly area with shallow waters, great for swimming with toddlers and young children. The beach has lots of small hotels, cafes, and restaurants, many right by the sea, where you’ll also find plenty of sunbeds.

Agios Georgios is a great choice if you want to be located in a relaxed setting on the beach, but walking distance from Chora. It is the perfect location if you are not planning to rent a car, but still want easy access to the main town without the need to take a bus or a taxi.

St George is my readers’ favourite area to stay in Naxos, as it offers the best of both worlds. The beach itself is not the best in Naxos, but you can easily take the bus or drive to Agia Anna, Agios Prokopios, Plaka, and other quieter beaches further down the coast.

Agia Anna is a small beach village with soft sand, clear water, and a cozy Greek island feel. It’s quieter than Naxos Town and Agios Prokopios, but still has good restaurants, beach cafes and bars, mini-markets and small hotels.

Many places to stay in Agia Anna are right by the sea, offering easy beach access. The vibe is relaxed, making it great for couples and families who want a slower pace. It’s also close to other beaches like Agios Prokopios and Plaka, that you can walk or take the bus to.

Where to stay in Plaka Naxos

Plaka Beach is one of the loveliest beaches in the Cyclades. It is a long sandy beach, with many peaceful, unspoiled parts, as well as a naturist area. It has soft sand, gentle waves, and a quiet atmosphere. It’s less crowded than other beaches, which makes it ideal if you want to relax.

Compared to the previous areas, Plaka feels a little remote, but there are plenty of hotels, cafes, beach bars, tavernas and a few mini-markets. Many accommodations are beachfront, so you can wake up to the sound of the sea.

Overall, Plaka beach is a great spot if you want a calm and scenic stay while still having good food and comfort close by. You can always get the bus / drive into town, or to visit other beaches on the island.

Glaronissi Beach – luxurious beachfront property with a private beach area and on-site parking

Ammothines Cycladic Suites – beautiful property right on the beach, delicious breakfast, awesome outdoor pool, private parking, fitness center

Plaka beach in Naxos is largely unspoiled

Other areas to stay in Naxos

For a quieter stay, you can look into the coastal areas beyond Plaka, such as Orkos, Kastraki, Pyrgaki, or even Agiassos which is the southernmost settlement in Naxos.

For the ultimate getaway, have a look at the incredible Theoni Villas, or Zos Suites, on the quiet east coast of the island, close to Psili Ammos beach. Both of these are ideal if you want to be away from the Naxos summer crowds, and have the beach to yourselves!

Finally, if the beach is not a priority, you can stay at any of the mountain villages, like Filoti, Apeiranthos or Chalki, where many local people live.
