During the Christmas 2025 holiday, shops in Athens Greece will have extended operating hours, and will also remain open on Sundays. Here is some more information.
Christmas Shopping Athens 2025
Christmas is almost here! There are Christmas decorations and events all around Athens, and it’s this time of the year that people go shopping for gifts.
Starting on December 11, shops in Athens will be open for longer hours. The Trade Association of Athens is suggesting the following hours for stores to remain open:
Monday to Friday: 09:00 – 21:00 (9:00 – 18:00 on 24 and 31 December)
Saturdays: 09:00 – 16:00 (December 13), 09:00 – 18:00 (December 20 and 27) – though stores are legally allowed to stay open until 21:00
Sundays: 11:00 – 16:00 (December 14), 11:00 – 18:00 (December 21 and 28) – though stores are legally allowed to stay open until 20:00
Note that commercial stores and supermarkets will be closed on 25-26 December as well as 1-2 January 2026. They will also be closed on 6 January, which is the Epiphany Day and is a public holiday in Greece.

Friday 26 December, Boxing Day: Shops will remain closed
Saturday 27 December: 09:00 – 18:00
Sunday 28 December: 11:00 – 18:00
Monday 29 December: 09:00 – 21:00
Tuesday 30 December: 09:00 – 21:00
Wednesday 31 December: 09:00 – 18:00
Thursday 1 January: Shops will remain closed
Friday 2 January: Shops will remain closed
As of Saturday, 3 January, opening hours will go back to normal. Shops will remain closed on Tuesday 6 January 2025, the Epiphany Day.
