During the Christmas 2023 holiday, shops in Athens Greece will have extended operating hours, and will also remain open on Sundays. Here is some more information.
Christmas Shopping Athens 2023
Christmas is almost here! There are Christmas decorations and events all around Athens, and it’s this time of the year that people go shopping for gifts.
Starting on December 12, shops in Athens will be open for longer hours. The Trade Association of Athens is suggesting the following hours for stores to remain open:
Monday to Friday: 9:00 – 21:00
Saturdays: 09:00 – 18:00
Sundays (December 17, 24 and 31): 11:00 – 18:00.
Note that commercial stores, including the larger supermarkets, will be closed on 25-26 December as well as 1-2 January 2024. They will also be closed on 6 January, which is the Epiphany Day and is a public holiday in Greece.

Monday 1 January 2024: Shops will remain closed
Tuesday 2 January: Shops will remain closed
As of Wednesday, 3 January, opening hours will go back to normal. Shops will remain closed on Saturday 6 January 2024.
