Hotels in Milos Greece

Where to stay in Milos Greece? So many readers have asked me this question! And it makes sense, as accommodation is one of the first things that people look for when going on a vacation to the Greek islands.

Most of the accommodation in Milos consists of small, family run hotels and simple rooms to let. There is also an increasing number of small villas, boutique hotels, and refurbished traditional fishermen’s houses.

Most of these Milos hotels and rooms are located in the three main towns:

  • Adamas, the main port town
  • Plaka, the picturesque capital of Milos, and the nearby villages
  • Pollonia, a seaside resort town with a small port.

There are also rooms, guesthouses and boutique hotels scattered outside the main towns, close to the various coastal areas of Milos.

Wherever you stay, Milos is unlikely to get too crowded, at least for the time being. And, as with most of the Greek islands, you won’t find large hotel complexes and high-rise buildings.

So, here is a guide on where to stay in Milos. I’ve included the best areas to base yourself at, and a selection of highly rated rooms and apartments in each area.

Booking accommodation in Milos

Booking.com is a great platform where you can compare different properties and reserve your accommodation in Milos.

Here is a tip on booking hotels in Milos and other Greek islands: Many hotel owners don’t list their rooms on reservation sites until mid-spring, and often take them off completely out of season. Therefore, there is little point in doing your online research as early as, for example, December.

With that said, if you are planning your Greek vacation for the peak months of July and August, it’s best to book your rooms early in the year. This way, you will be able to get the rooms you want on the dates you want them for.

Here are a few suggestions for rooms and apartments in Adamas Town, the main Milos port.

Hotels and Rooms in Adamas Port Town

If you are travelling to Milos by ferry, Adamas is the first place you will see, as this is where ferries arrive from Piraeus port in Athens and other nearby islands. It is the largest town on Milos, and enjoys a privileged location in a big, sheltered bay.

There are all sorts of shops and services are available in Adamas, including travel agencies, car rental companies, tavernas and cafes. Two of the island’s beaches, Lagada and Papikinou, are walking distance from the port.

Adamas is the best area to stay in Milos if you are visiting the island for just a couple of nights, or if you are taking a Milos boat tour to Kleftiko Bay and Polyaigos island. It’s also the best located area if you are planning to use public transportation, as this is where all buses depart from.

Here is a list of some of the best places to stay in Adamas:

Budget Hotels in Adamas

Veletas Rooms is one of the places we have stayed ourselves. The location is excellent, on a quiet street close to the port. The apartments are spacious, and the landlady will give you all the information you want. There’s a laundry service literally one minute away.

Adamas Comfy Homes I is a short stroll from the port of Adamas, and a three-minute walk from the Mining Museum. They offer spacious apartments with all facilities, and private balconies.

Venus de Milo is a refurbished property offering clean, simple rooms with kitchenettes. They are located on a quiet street, but close to everything in Adamas.

Sarakiniko rooms, between Adamas and Sarakiniko, provide simple budget rooms with a fridge. When we stayed here, we loved being able to walk to Sarakiniko beach. Other than that, you will probably need some form of your own transportation.

There are a few interesting museums, many cafes and restaurants, and an array of quality souvenir shops. In addition, Plaka is the best area to stay in Milos to enjoy the wonderful sunset views.

There are a few hotels in Plaka itself, as well as in the nearby villages of Trypiti, Klima and Triovasalos.

Note that most of the streets in the wider area are steep and narrow, and that Plaka is mostly closed to traffic. There is a large public parking space right outside the town.

Hotels and Rooms in Pollonia town

Pollonia village is considered a romantic area. Located on the northeast coast of Milos, it is a lot more secluded than Adamas, but has enough restaurants and tavernas to keep you happy. It’s also ideal for families, as the main Pollonia beach is shallow and protected.

Due to the recent boom in Milos tourism, many of the guesthouses and hotels in Pollonia are relatively new. A lot of effort has been made to keep them stylish and welcoming, and there is plenty of choice. However, as Pollonia is a popular area, early booking is advised. If you are after a particular room or suite, don’t leave it for the last minute!

We would not suggest staying here unless you have a vehicle, as bus connections are rather infrequent. However, Pollonia is ideal for visitors who are more interested in relaxing rather than exploring.

Budget and Mid-range Hotels in Pollonia

A short walk from Pollonia town, you will find Polyegos View self-catering apartments. This is where we stayed on our first trip to Milos, and really appreciated the peace and quiet, the spotless rooms and the amazing sunrise views. There was a lovely kitchen with fridge, and a power shower.

Budget-minded travellers will probably find this is the best hotel in Pollonia. From our experience, it actually looks more like a mid-range place.

Ostria Vento is located at the outskirts of the village. Their rooms come with balconies and breakfast facilities.

Villa Sosanna, a short walk from Pollonia center, offers a range of clean and cosy rooms for couples and families. There are kitchen facilities and a washing machine.

Top-end Accommodation in Pollonia

Traditional House Milos is a spacious family apartment. There is a fully equipped kitchen, and a complimentary welcome breakfast basket is included. The apartment has large balconies and the sea views over the Aegean are stunning.

Nefeli Sunset Studios is an upmarket property facing the sunset, hence the name! The location is perfect for holidaymakers wanting to relax and spend some undisturbed time. Breakfast is delivered in the room daily, and rooms have a kitchenette as well.

If you feel like splurging, check out Milos Breeze Boutique Hotel. With its own swimming pool and bar, it opens out to amazing sea views over the Aegean. A hearty breakfast is provided, and service is exceptional. The beach and the village are only a short walk away.

Finally, for the ultimate pampering and relaxation, have a look at Villa Lord. It has all amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen and a hot tub. It’s located right next to Pollonia beach, a few metres from the restaurants.

Where to Stay in Milos Off-the-beaten-track

There are plenty of places to stay in Milos out of the main towns, which are ideal if you’d like to fully relax. If you are planning to stay here, you’d have to hire your own transportation.

You will find several villas and private houses all along the coastline. Before booking, remember that the north beaches are often affected by the wind. Here are a couple:

Giourgas Studios and Apartments is a lovely aparthotel walking distance from Provatas beach, the only beach in Milos awarded with the prestigious blue flag. They offer a range of spacious apartments with free private parking.

Hotel Milos Resort is right on Achivadolimni beach, the longest sandy beach in Milos. There are different types of rooms with breakfast and access to pools.

Paleochori is one of the nicest beaches in Milos on the south coast. There are a few budget rooms available. For a little bit of luxury, Volcano Luxury Suites Milos is great. It’s an adults only hotel, offering spacious rooms and suites right on the beach.

Stay in a Fishing Village in Milos

Many of the smaller coastal villages in Milos are famous for the traditional, picturesque fishermen’s houses, called sirmata. Some of them have been transformed into stylish, modern tourist accommodation, which might not be immediately obvious when you first stroll by.

While the sirmata rooms are far from the best budget accommodation in Milos, they are definitely unique, and the absolute local experience. Check the descriptions carefully, and be sure to book early, as they do get popular.

Klima is the most famous fishermen’s village. You can find a few sirmata there, such as Sunset Klima Boathouse, Blue Sea House, Tsakanos Sirma, Vasealis and Seafis sirma and Captain’s Boathouse.

Other highly rated sirmata houses in Milos include Seashell Mandrakia Sea View in Mandrakia, Blue Mare and Vilos Suites in Firopotamos, and Fani Dream Suite in Pachaina.

Extra tip: These houses are literally on the seafront. On windy days, you could get a little wet – but that’s part of their unique charm!

Note: If you are visiting during the meltemi season, you could consider accommodation options with a pool. Even though it’s always possible to find a relatively sheltered beach, you might have to drive a lot to reach it.
