If you are travelling in Greece in Summer 2021, you will need to be aware of travel requirements. Unless you are vaccinated or have previously contracted Covid-19, you may need to take a PCR / rapid test. Here’s all you need to know about travel requirements, including where to get a Covid test in Greece.
Where to take a Covid test in Greece (includes addresses, maps and all contact info)
After a long winter, Greece has opened to visitors in May 2021. In early July, new rules were introduced for visitors travelling by ferry to the islands.
The same principles apply for domestic flights, when travelling from the mainland to the islands. Make sure you get in touch with your ferry company or airline for any clarifications.
Long story short, unless you are vaccinated or have a certificate proving you have contracted Covid-19 in the past few months, you may need to get either a PCR or a Rapid Antigen test. Similarly, your country of origin might be asking for a negative test when you are returning home.
Note that, in some cases, you will also need a test for certain entertainment venues, including nightclubs. Check this article for more info.
Where can I get a Covid-19 test in Greece?
First of all, you can get a Rapid Antigen and PCR test at certain airports in Greece. Check the airport websites for more information.
In addition, Covid-19 tests can be taken at private medical labs around Greece. You may need to book an appointment, though not all labs require it.
I suggest you schedule your appointment as soon as you know when you need your test for, as availability might be limited in some areas. Also, note that some labs may not be open on Sundays and perhaps Saturdays.
The results of your Rapid test will normally be emailed you in 1-2 hours, while for PCR tests it may take up to a day. The name on your test certificate must match your name as written on your passport.
Prices for these tests are generally fixed, at 20 euro for a Rapid Antigen test and 60 euro for a PCR test, but there are exceptions. If you are flying with Aegean / Olympic Air, they are currently offering a small discount for tests taken at the airport.
Here is a list of labs around Greece where you can take a Covid-19 test. I have included phone numbers, websites, and the location on Google Maps to make it easier!
Information is correct at time of writing, but please doublecheck with the lab that suits you a few days before your test. In addition, please note that there is a plan for pharmacies to dispense rapid tests, but this hasn’t happened yet. I will update the article if it goes ahead. Also – please ask the local people (hotel owner, pharmacy) for more tips!
